Colombo Port City under debated in Parliament

The matter on the future of the Colombo Port City was debated in Parliament where PM Wickremesinghe assured that a fresh government will be inked after amending conditions.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesighe stated that according to the new agreement, ownership of any land will not be given to the company running the project, as they have agreed to build an International Financial Centre in place of the night racing track.

He added that compensation will not be paid, as they have discussed it with the Chinese Government and the project company, to waive the claim.

Leader of the JVP and Chief Opposition Whip,  Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that Chinese company incurred a loss of 43 million due to suspension of work. An agreement was also reached to grant two hectares of land as a result of the visits undertaken by Prime Minister and President.

The Prime Minister noted that during the draft it was noted that a night race track is not needed and circles for casinos. They had requested for two hectares of land when additional lands were included.

He went on to note that at the cabinet meeting, it was noted that compensation cannot be granted, but during the discussion that followed they did not make any request for the two hectares of land.
