The appointment of a new governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka was raised at several briefings on Thursday, June 30. Co-Convenor of the Left Centre, Chameera Perera stated that Premier Wickremesinghe barged in with Arjun Mahendran when the President was holding a discussion with the officers of CBSL.
He added that he attempts to appoint one of his confidants as Charitha Ratwatte, is widely discussed as an interest.Explaining further he noted that civil organisations will step on the streets if a person who can protect the integrity and independence of the treasury is not appointed.
Chief Minister of the Western Province, Isura Devapriya stated that the specialty about President Sirisena is that he did not appoint his henchmen.
Leader of the National Freedom Front, Wimal Weerawansa stated that the serious scope of the fraud committed by Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran was proven by the Auditor General’s Report that was handed over to COPE.
He added that the Auditor General’s Department cannot conduct investigations done through the police. However, conclusions on the monetary losses have been presented.
