SL Navy commences probe into incident involving Nazir Ahamed and senior officer

The Sri Lanka Navy has commenced a probe in to the incident where the Chief Minister of Eastern Province Nazir Ahamed rebuked a naval officer. Navy Spokesperson Captain Akram Alavi said that the incident was probed independently and a report was handed over to the Secretary of Defence by the Commander of the Navy.

The Chief Minister of the Eastern Province rebuked a senior rank Naval Officer at an event in a school in Sampur on Tuesday
in the presence of the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka.

Chief Minister of Eastern Province, Nazeer Ahamed stated that when he along with the others stood up, he was pushed. Therefore, if he would face a situation as such why do people elect them following elections.

Governor of the Eastern Province, Austin Fernando stated that the incident transpired  when the chief minister got onstage and spoke to the naval officer aggressively.

Leader of the National Unity Front, Azad Sally stated that the Eastern Chief Minister has “become a ruffian” and reprimanded the naval officer.

Leader of the Nava Sama Samaja Party, Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne stated that the manner in which he acted, was not acceptable.
