Officials of the World Bank met with President Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesday. The briefing was held at the official residence of the President where twelve officials of the World Bank were present. Executive officials from the
World Bank arrived in the country after thirty four years to examine the progress of projects implemented by utilising financial aid provided by them and implement conditions on the change of certain structures of the financial aid facilities.
President Sirisena requested officials to provide financial aid under flexible terms and conditions, to develop the country by uplifting standards of the citizens for four more years.
In response, the representatives stated that President Sirisena will receive a favourable answer as the World Bank will re-consider the conditions implied on income earning countries.
A review on the financial aid received by the World Bank was presented based on the information collected while travelling across several districts.
