President Sirisena inquired into the steps taken by the Central Environment Authority (CEA) to manage environmental harm caused by various disasters. The president made these inquiries at a special meeting.
The president instructed officials to establish a special environmental relief force to manage damages caused by disaster situations in order to a suitable environment for people to live in.
He further instructed that the task force should be represented by multiple stakeholders including the CEA, the Ministry of Disaster Management, security forces, the police, divisional secretaries, public and private sector organisations and volunteer organisations.
Attention was also drawn to environmental programmes that were implemented to prevent the spread of diseases such as dengue, with the receding of the flood waters.
