Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Mustapha accompanied by officials of the CMC took steps to clear the stagnant flood water situation in Kolonnawa and surrounding areas.
Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Faiszer Mustapha stated that if the law is not imposed on unauthorised reclamation, a permanent solution cannot be found. He stated that therefore, the cabinet should take a decision on the matter.
Meanwhile, the clean up operation is to be led by the Colombo Municipal Council in the following areas. Municipal Commissioner of CMC, V.K. Anura stated that since several areas in the Colombo Municipal Council are inundated they have been attended to with the help of Pradeshiya Sabhas.
Questions were raised as to whether it will be cleaned completely and also the location as to where the waste from Colombo will be taken.In reply, he noted a court order has been obtained in order to take waste matter from Colombo to Karadiyana in Piliyandala.
Another question was raised whether the waste matter will be brought to Kolonnawa. In reply the commissioner noted that it will be brought until the matter is resolved at a national level.
