Customs officers at the Katunayake International Airport seized ten kilogrammes of gold worth over Rs.50 million which was in the possession of three women who arrived in the country.
The three women arrived in the country from Dubai around 8.30 on Monday morning. According to the customs officials two of the women arrived at the airport on a wheelchair to evade standard checking procedures.
The woman behind the two women on wheelchairs was in possession of the gold. The suspects were between 40 and 50 years of age.
