Events of  Sunday, May 1, have  drawn much attention as always. However, with this year it has made more headlines because of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, and where he will be going for the May Day rally.

According to UPFA, MP Dinesh Gunawardena, their invitation which was extended to the former president to attend their rally in Kirulapone has been met with success. MP Gunawardena says that Mahinda Rajapaksa has accepted the invitation, blessing them to make the event a success.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara had a different point. He stated that after January 8, 2015, plans were drawn for January 17, which were met with objections against the inclusion of the previous “group”. The minister alleges that despite the objections, the mentioned group has come forward and are creating internal issues.

UPFA MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena says that though they sought a mandate to make Mahinda Rajapaksa the Prime Minister, it is Ranil Wickremesinghe who ended up as the PM, with the former President taking the seat in the opposition. MP Abeygunawardena says that the people’s mandate is respected and any challenge that comes across will be accepted.
