The Peliyagoda – Biyagama road has been temporarily obstructed due to an accident involving a container on the new Peliyagoda bridge.
According to the police these measures were taken as metal sheets from one side of the bridge had fallen onto the road, following the accident.
The accident occurred as the container attempted to travel along the lower bridge on Sunday morning, despite having been advised to refrain from travelling along that bridge which is built for railway travel, due to its height.
The police added that two other vehicles had collided along the bridge as a result of this as the height between the main road and the bridge was 3.5 metres.
Furthermore, they noted the vehicles on either side of the road have been informed and that three warning signs each were placed. However, police said that these accidents keep occurring due to the carelessness of drivers.
Explaining further, they noted that the Kandy Road, Pattiya Junction to the Dumriyapola Road leading to the Biyagama Road can be used as an alternative route as construction on the road has commenced.
