A suicide vest and several other explosives were discovered inside a house in Chavakachcheri , Jaffna. The owner of the house was apprehended by police the evening of March 30.
A tip-off led a group of police officers to search a house in Maravanpulau, located in Chavakachcher , Jaffna early this morning. The search resulted in the discovery of a suicide vest, four clay-more mines and three parcels containing about 12 kilogrammes of TNT explosives.
In addition, two packets containing 100 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition and two battery packs used to detonate side chargers were discovered from the house. The owner of the house had fled during the police raid.
Police said that he was arrested by officers at the Akkarayankulam Police Post in Killinochci while fleeing aboard a lorry this evening. An extensive investigation has been launched over the 30-year -old suspect.
Police suspect that the explosives and other equipment may have been hidden away during the war.
