Fire erupts in Namunukula; Badulla wildlife officers remain alert

Director of the Department of Meteorology S. Premalal says the El Niño  climate cycle has resulted in the country to experiencing warm temperatures.

He added that the delay in the inter-monsoon rains will attribute to a low amount of rainfall during this period.

The Department of Meteorology states that dry weather will prevail over most parts of the country.

The holiday leave of the officers from the Department of Wildlife Conservation based in the Badulla District have been temporarily cancelled.

R.M.Wijepala, the District Wildlife Officer speaking to News 1st said that this measure was taken aimed at controlling wild fires that may arise due to the dry weather.

Meanwhile, a fire has erupted in the Goonkale estate area in Namunukula on Tuesday night.The department of forest conservation stated that a team has been dispatched to contain the fire

The department also stated that a team has also been sent to Supagolla area in Uwaparanagama to contain another fire.
