Royal College, Colombo clinched victory of the 137th Battle of the Blues against S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia a short while ago.
Chasing a target of 150 runs on the final day of play, Royal College reached the target with four wickets to spare. Malith Kariyawasam lead the Royalists to victory, with an unbeaten knock of 38 .
Batting first, S. Thomas’ College posted 350 runs for the loss of five wickets before declaring. Opener Rashmika Opatha top scored with 124 runs.
In reply, Royal College posted 328 runs for the loss of nine wickets, before declaring their first essay. Pasindu Sooriyabandara top scored with 123 runs for the Royalists.
On the final day of play S. Thomas’ College began their second innings and were bowled out for just 127 runs, setting a target of 150 runs for the Royalists.
The victory for Royal College at the SSC Grounds in Colombo marked the 35th occasion on which they won the Battle of the Blues.
