The Department of Prisons says the Attorney General has been informed with regards to the ongoing hunger strike launched by inmates arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Prisons Media Spokesperson, Thushara Upuldeniya said the Attorney General’s Department was working in this regard and went on to note that two inmates from the Anuradhapura prison, as well as fourteen inmates from the Colombo Magazine Prison are engaged in the hunger strike.
He added that at present, four inmates had been admitted to the Prisons Hospital. The inmates commenced this strike, demanding that their cases be expedited by court.
He noted that documents connected to the cases of the inmates had been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department.
