The final rites of the late Minister of Lands M.K.A.D.S.Gunawardena will take place on Saturday in Kantale.

The body of the minister, who passed away on Tuesday afternoon while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo, is currently placed at his home in Gampaha.

Munasinghe Kariyawasam Appuhamilage Don Somadasa Gunawardana was born on March 16, 1947 in Doranagoda, Gampaha. He was educated at the Doranagoda Maha Vidyalaya.

The M. K. A. D. S. Gunawardena served as a police officer and retired from the service as an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

M. K. A. D. S. Gunawardena who entered active politics in 1982 from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party made his debut in Parliament in 1989. He was once again elected from the Trincomalee District in 2001 and continued to remain in Parliament until his demise.

M. K. A. D. S. Gunawardena served as the Deputy Minister of Buddha Sasana under the Government of Mahinda Rajapaksa, before crossing over in 2014.

When President Maithripala Sirisena decided to contest as the common candidate, the late minister was committed to ensure his victory since the very first media briefing.

He was 69 at the time of his demise.
