Taiwan has elected its first female president Tsai Ing-wen

Ms Tsai represents the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), who plays a lead role in the search for Independence from China.

China views the island of Taiwan as break-away province, which it has threatened to take back with the use of force, if necessary.

Ms Tsai, managed to get a commanding lead in terms of votes over Eric Chu of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT)
