Radiation therapy re-commences at Karapitiya Hospital

The services of the radiation therapy machine used to treat cancer patients at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, has now been restored.

Over 80 cancer patients are treated using this radiation therapy machine on a daily basis. As this radiation therapy machine had been out of service over the past few days, patients had been sent to the Maharagama and Badulla hospitals for treatment.

Director of the Karapitiya Teaching hospital, Dr. Shelton Perera said that services of the machine had been restored after the company in charge had carried out temporary repair work on it.

Dr. Perera added that at present, there is a deficiency in the isotopes of the elements used in the radiation therapy machine.
