Minister P.Harisson says that storage of paddy at the Mattala International Airport has generated greater revenue than operations at the airport
The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) had obtained the facility on lease to store approximately 4000 metric tonnes of paddy which, according to News 1st Correspondent Granville Ratnayake, were removed on Thursday January 14.
Speaking to reporters present at the Mattala Airport, the Rural Economic Development Minister P. Harrison stated that the facility, was ‘infested with pigeons’ before being taken over to store paddy. The Minister noted that the facility was rented out to the PMB for Rs. 800,000 a month, as opposed to the previous ‘pre-paddy storage’ revenue of Rs. 16,000 a month.
According to Minister P. Harrison, the Mattala Airport has made 50 times more revenue a month by simply storing paddy.
