President attends Jaffna Christmas celebrations; vows to resolve issues of displaced persons

President attends Jaffna Christmas celebrations; vows to resolve issues of displaced persons

The National Christmas Celebrations were held under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Jaffna Municipal Council Grounds on Sunday afternoon.

The event which was organised by the Ministry of Christian Affairs.

The event saw a special prayer session being hosted, along with a number of events which are hailed as authentic to the culture and traditions observed by the people of Jaffna.

Addressing the event, the president pledged to resolve in six months, the issues centering around displaced persons in Jaffna.

The president added that a special task force will be assigned for this undertaking. The President revealed at the event that he had privately met with displaced persons in Jaffna and looked into their issues.

The president also reiterated that people who level allegations citing national security will be facilitated to make their way to the North in order to have a first hand experience of the ground situation there.
