New1st-Sirasa-Shakthi Empower the Woman campaign reaches Badulla,Vavuniya

A women’s empowerment programme launched by News1st, Sirasa, and Shakthi together with the Sri Lanka Police, to promote awareness on gender equality, safeguarding and empowering women, was held in the Northern and Uva Provinces on Sunday.

The programme, which is being held under the theme Empower The Woman, is being conducted together with the Sri Lanka Police, the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government, district and divisional secretariats.

Women’s organisations, the police and people from surrounding areas, attended the programme held at the Badulla town centre at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Awareness was raised through a bracelet and leaflet campaign. Women were given the opportunity to highlight their ideas, grievances and problems.

Another phase of the Empower The Woman campaign, commenced in Vavuniya on Sunday.

An awareness programme was held at the Vavuniya Divisional Secretariat where women in the area were also given an opportunity to present their ideas and grievances.
