State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran speaking in parliament on Friday, commented on the murder of her late husband.

When MP Douglas Devananda responded to this statement in parliament, a tense situation arose.

State Minister of Child Affairs, Vijayakala Maheswaran stated:

The person who planned the murder of Maheswaran is still representing this Parliament. He needs to be identified and brought before the law. There are many women like me who were affected. Back then there were the white van abductions, while some were murdered and nothing has been brought before the law.

MP, Douglas Devananda stated:

I wish to tell the representative of Maheswaran, if you want to know the truth you can go to the court of appeal and ask for an investigation to be conducted.

In reply the State Minister of Child Affairs stated:

I have the opportunity to speak about my husband during my speech and I have the power do so. I do not like anyone saying that they do not like my husband’s name. I made it clear in my statement that the person who planned the murder is in this chamber.here are several of them and they are representing the house of 225 members.

She further stated:

I did not even mention the name and today the person who planned it presented himself while I mentioned to the President and the Prime Minister that the investigations did not take place in a proper manner. The Chief Justice must give a verdict. Unsuitable persons should not give us decisions.

She added:

You only understand the pain when the disease is identified. If I have not done any wrong, I need not be scared. The President and the Prime Minister will work to locate the perpetrator. However, the person who planned the murder presented himself today. Therefore he needs to be taken before the law.
