Today is day two of the Youth Parliament of Sri Lanka. The sessions of the Youth Parliament of Sri Lanka taking place at the main hall of the National Youth Services Council in Maharagama, commenced on Saturday under the auspices of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

Of the 225 members of the Youth Parliament, 160 were elected, while 65 were appointed and represent youth organisations.

Speaker of Parliament, Karu Jayasuriya stated:

Every government that was elected faced massive allegations and in the Index of Corruption we have failed to surpass the 40 points mark. When you enter politics keep in mind to have a clean slate with you, and when you retire, there will be no happiness than that.

He added:

The current government was able to appoint nine independent commissions within a short period of time and you can be hopeful of an independent police, independent judiciary and independent public service. This new era will leave no room for nationalism and racism.
