Ruwan Wijewardene and Anuradha Jayaratnne were sworn in as acting ministers before President Maithriapala Sirisena today. Minister Ruwan Wijewardene was  thus sworn in as the acting Minister of Defence while Minister Anuradha Jayaratne was sworn in as the acting Minister of Maheweli Development and Environment before the President on Wednesday.

President Maithripala Sirisena left for the USA on Wednesday morning, to attend the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. The Presidential media division said that the President left the country at 10 a.m. today.

The delegation accompanying the President included Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mangala Samaraweeera, Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and Minister of Vocational training Mahinda Samarasinghe.

The President is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 30.
