Convening a media briefing in Colombo today, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party elaborated on its stance on the recently published OHCHR report.

Minister S.B. Dissanayake said:

This UN report is a one-sided report and we rejected this investigation, after President Maithripala Sirisena visited Great Britain and the US Secretary of State arrived here, we can very clearly see that India, the United States and Europe are ready to support us in order to work with us in a friendly and trustworthy manner.

He added:

We believe that it isn’t wise to completely deny this and go into war. We have strong belief that President Maithripala Sirisena will be able to pave the way for us to find solutions to these allegations,  through our mechanism and our judicial system.

Media Spokesperson for the SLFP, Minister Dilan Perera stated:

We can only understand the value of this consensual government after this report was published and while saying no to an international investigation, we as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party are trying to eliminate suspicions that there will be international intervention under the guise of a hybrid court system, and work towards making certain amendment to the proposals that we have made in this committee in the coming week.
