A group of Opposition MPs who refrained from attending Wednesday’s parliamentary session, protested opposite the Parliamentary Complex. Opposition MPs from United People’s Freedom Alliance including MPs Dinesh Gunawardena, Prasanna Ranatunga, Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Namala Rajapaksa took part in this protest.

UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardena added that we refrained from parliamentary proceedings on Wednesday as a mark of protest against the failure to follow laws, rules, regulations and standing orders of the house of parliament.

He  added:

We are the true opposition and we will continue this protest within parliament until the Prime Minister stops violating parliamentary customs by addressing us, the true opposition, with animal and bird names and we will continue to protest on behalf of the public until customs and decency are maintained in parliament.
