The body of toddler Seya Sadewmi, who was reported missing from her home in Kotadeniyawa, was discovered on the morning of Sunday September 13.

The police have deployed three teams to conduct investigations into the child’s death. Seya Sadewmi’s body was discovered at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday,  just 24 hours after she was reported missing.

The naked body was discovered on the bank of a waterway and a piece of cloth was seen wound around the girl’s neck. The location where the body was found in the Akarangaha Othara Field has two approaches from the family’s home.

One road is about 200 metres long while the other is about 500 metres long.

Police commenced a search operation on Saturday morning, after it was reported that Seya Sadewmi Perera had gone missing at night, while the family slept.

Police suspect that the child might have been abducted through an open window next to her bed. While her clothes were found on her bed, police dogs were unable to trace her scent.

Police covered a large area around the home last night as well, with the assistance of residents.

The Acting Magistrate of Minuwangoda Sisira Wijeysuriya conducted the magisterial inquest on Sunday while the Judicial Medical Officer in Minuwangoda was also present.

The Magistrate had ordered that the body be taken to the Negombo General Hospital for the Judicial Medical Examination. He added that the magisterial inquest would continue at the Minuwangoda Magistrate’s Court on September 21.

Seya Sadewmi met with this tragic end, just three days before her fifth birthday.
