Sixty barrels of liquor seized as police raid Negombo brewery

Police arrested one person in a raid carried out on an illegal brewery in the Karakgahabokka lagoon in Negombo.

They also seized 60 barrels of Goda during the raid. The raid was carried out after a tip-off was received by the Intelligence Unit of the Walana Anti Vice Squad.

A two-day raid by the Walana Anti Vice Squad resulted in the seizure of several litres of  Goda worth over Rs.3.4 million. The seized stock of liquor that had been brewed was worth over five million rupees.

Smugglers had been bringing in the illegal liquor from the lagoon and had been distributing this liquor in the areas of Katunayake , Seeduwa and Negombo. The arrested individual and the seized stock of illegal liquor will be produced before the Mahara Magistrate’s Court.

The Galle Police were also able to conduct raids where illegal sand-mining had taken place in Baddegama, Amugoda in Galle. The raid was conducted under the supervision of SSP of Galle, Saliya Silva Ten ferries were seized during the raids.

According to our correspondent that the suspects had fled the area following the raid.
