The National Institute of Education has decided to assess and revise the current school curriculum to meet the mental capacity of the students. Director General Prof. Gunapala Nanayakkara stated that the current curriculum, due to various reasons, is exerting pressure on the students.
He added that education experts as well as psychologists have presented their reports on this this matter to the National Institute of Education. Accordingly, the curriculum has been revised under three catergories – grade 1 to 5, grade 6 to 11 and 12 and 13.
He went on to note that the syllabus taught at the GCE O/L (Ordinary Level) and A/L (Advanced Level) are taught at the first year of university. The reason being that the subject content overlaps. Recommendations with regard to the primary sector subjects of science, mathematics, Sinhala literature, geography are to be presented.
