Police have arrested 115 individuals for the violation of election laws and election-related violence.
The Police Media Unit said that a total of 92 complaints with regard to election law violation have been lodged.
Meanwhile, a total of 507 election related complaints have been lodged with the Election Secretariat thus far. The complaints unit said that majority of complaints received, specifically 142, are with regard to illegal and unfair appointments and promotions.
In addition, the Elections Secretariat has also received 102 complaints with regard to the election related posters and cutouts that were displayed, while 74 complaints were lodged with regard to the distribution of goods and 66 complaints of the misuse of state vehicles were lodged with the Election Secretariat. Another 29 were reported with regard to the use of state workers for election-related work.
The Election Secretariat has recorded the highest number of complaints, totaling 78, from the Colombo district, with regard to the upcoming general election. Thirty-six complaints were lodged from Badulla, 27 from the Hambantota District and 27 from the Gampaha District.
