Several UPFA candidates sign nomination papers ahead of deadline

A number of UPFA candidates signed their nomination papers on Thursday, July 9, as the deadline for the submission of nominations draws closer.

The Elections Secretariat recently that nominations will not be accepted on Saturday and Sunday.

Representatives of the United People’s Freedom Alliance arrived at the Mahaweli Centre in Colombo to sign the nomination papers for the August polls. A number of former parliamentarians have been granted the opportunity to contest the election this time around too.

Former Ministers Johnston Fernando, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Dulles Allahaperuma, Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Rohitha Abeygunawardene were a few of the UPFA politicians who signed their nomination papers on Thursday.
