The Department of Railways has decided to purchase eighteen new power sets.
Railway General Manager of Railways, Vijaya Amaratunge stated that an approval from the cabinet has been received in relation to this matter. He added that the purchase of the power sets are to be conducted under the open tender procedure.
In addition, the Department of Railways is to purchase 30 tank compartments for 108 railway stations involved in the transportation of oil. He added that the new power sets are expected to be utilised for both long distance train travel as well as urban train travel.
