News 1st, Sirasa and Shakthi took the initiative on Friday June 26 to make Sri Lanka a drug-free country.
The National Anti Drug Drive programme which is organised under the theme Drugs have no place in Me, My Home, and My Country will cover 72 locations across the country.
The first phase of the National Anti Drug Drive was launched in all five districts of the Northern Province – Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Vavuniya.
The National Anti Drug Drive island-wide door to door campaign was carried out with the participation of officers from the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board.
Local Authorities and police officers too are taking part in this campaign against drugs.
While a special programme to rehabilitate those who suffer serious drug-related addiction is being carried out, a sticker will be pasted in residences with the slogan Say no to drugs.
A special workshop was also organised in order to take measures to eradicate the drug menace.
The programmes are open to students, teachers and for all, from all communities in society.
The National Anti Drug Drive which commenced on Friday is aimed at directing the human resources of the country towards a positive direction and build a youth generation on that platform.
The Anti-Drug drive will also take place in the Central and Southern Province.
On Saturday the June 27, the National Anti Drug Drive will take place in Kayts, Punguduthivu, Sivapuram, Kattaikadu, Ambalpuram, Vavunikkulam, Selvapuram, Chettikulam, Thutuvaakai, Pesalai and Talaimannar areas.
