The Kyts Magistrate Court has ordered the suspects of the recent gang rape and murder of Sivaloganadhan Vidya in Punkudithivu, Jaffna be interrogated under detention orders.
Court ordered that the nine suspects be handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department until July 13 and also be subjected to DNA tests.
Meanwhile, the attorney general has filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal in connection with the Kotakethana double murder. The appeal was filed against the order given by the High Court to acquit three individuals in the murder of L. Premawathi and her daughter in Kotakethana.
The appeal filed by the attorney general states that the individuals were released as evidence forwarded by the prosecutor was not carefully examined, and because the contradictory statements made by the defendants and DNA evidence were not carefully scrutinised.
In his appeal, the attorney general requests that the case be re-examined, the verdict given by the High Court be made null and void, and the individuals be put on trial.
