Three foreign nationals and a Sri Lankan national were arrested at the Katunayake International Airport for possession of white sandalwood, during a search by the Airport Customs Biodiversity and National Heritage Protection Unit.
Investigations revealed that the stock of timber was hidden using beetle to smuggle the goods to Pakistan. The stock weighed 192.4 kilogrammes. The stock of timber has now been confiscated and the four suspects has been fined Rs. 100,000 each.
