Addressing an event held in Payagala on Tuesday (May 12th) President Maithripala Sirisena stated that the new government will take steps, to implement a broad social transformation through planning and vocation based education.
The President visited the Pothuvila Sri Sooriyabandara Rajamantindarama Viharaya in Payagala last evening and engaged in religious observances and also unveiled the golden fence erected around the Bo Tree at the Viharaya.
President Sirisena also presented certificates to students who completed the computer science program at the Computer Training Center affiliated to the Viharaya. He stated that it is important to strengthen vocational training within the country, however the President noted that the number of students who enroll in technical colleges and vocational training institutes in the country stand at an all time low.
According to the President there are individuals within the divisional secretariat who are charged with the responsibility of improving vocational education. He noted that it is their primary responsibility to ensure that students are made aware of these possibilities and that students gravitate towards vocational education
