The Disabled War Veterans Union convened a media briefing in Colombo on Tuesday (May 12th) to raise concerns over their salary arrears.
Media Spokesperson of Disabled War Veterans Union W.M.S.B. Wickramasinghe said that 291 members of the union had filed a case in the high court, demanding that their salary arrears be paid.
Disabled war veterans are entitled to their salary in addition to their pension until they reach 55 years of age. However according to the union a majority of them have not received their due salary from the day they retired up until the 1st of March 2014.
Wickramasinghe also noted that there are members of the union who have already passed the age of 55 years and as a result they are no longer entitled to this benefit.
