It was brought to the attention of the Dikwella Pradeshiya Sabha on Wednesday (May 13th), that a coastal construction harmful to the environment, is underway in Kadapala, Beliwatte in Dikwella.
Chairman Krishali Muthukumarana stated that an inquiry will be conducted by the Coast Conservation Dept. and a report will be presented to the council. A rockface is being constructed in the coastal area of Kadapala in Beliwatte, Dikwella.
According to the Chairman of the Dikwella Pradeshiya Sabha this is being constructed in order to secure the swimming pool of an unauthorized hotel in the area.
Chairman of the Dikwella Pradeshiya Sabha Krishali Muthukumarana stated that during the general meeting held of the Dikewella Pradeshiya Sabha a council member put forward the question regarding an ongoing construction in the Kadapola area in Beliwatte.
Responding to the query the Chairman of the PS noted that they had not approved such a construction adding that it falls under the purview of the Coast Conservation Dept. He had noted that he would look into the matter and inform the Pradeshiya Sabaha during its next meeting.
The Law does not permit any construction or development for private reasons, along the coast. News 1st inquiries revealed that the construction was owned by the relative of a prominent politician.
