The Colombo Chief Magistrate, Gihan Pilapitiya, has permitted the CID to investigate bank accounts and other assets that belong to the former president’s Chief of Staff, Gamini Senarath.
The Chief Magistrate has also permitted the CID to obtain statements from Gamini Senarath and nine other members of his family regarding the issue.
The officials of the CID’s Financial Division Special Unit requested for permission to investigate the bank accounts of Gamini Senarath and family as they have received various complaints that state that they have allegedly obtained various assets illegally.
Thus, the CID received permission from the magistrate to investigate and receive information about 80 bank accounts under their names.
The complaints against Senarath were made by Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe of the Jathika Hela Urumaya, on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Front.
