Presidential pardon for Sigiriya scribbler

The woman who was charged for scribbling on the Sigiriya frescoes and is serving a prison sentence has been granted a presidential pardon.

Minister of Justice Wijedasa Rajapakshe said that the president had signed the relevant document, in this regard.

Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe speaking further said vandalizing the Sigiriya Graffiti, is an offense that will be severely dealt with law.

The Minister went onto note that when reviewing the case , the background of the suspect was taken into consideration.

The suspect woman was arrested while scribbling on the frescoes with the use of a hairpin during an excursion.

She was sentenced to two years in prison after being produced before the Dambulla magistrate court. The suspect is a resident of Siththandi in Batticaloa.
