Suspects in Wattala PS assault case released on bail

Three suspects who were arrested for allegedly assaulting three members of the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha, including its Chairman, have been released on a surety bail of Rs.300,000.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that investigations are underway to arrest five other suspects.

The incident took place when Minister of Public Security, Christian Religious Affairs and Disaster Management John Amaratunga arrived at the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha and left.  Subsequent to the departure, the Pradeshiya Sabha convened where a group had disrupted the session demanding that the Chairman Thyagaratne Alwis steps down.

This ended in an exchange of blows.
