Speaking in Parliament, MP Dinesh Gunawardena said that the Parliament is the only entity that can remove a Chief Justice from his position. And added that this is a sad incident that has taken place in the history of Parliament.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader, Nimal Siripala de Silva said that it is essential that the Prime Minister notifies the house that the government will ensure good governance and the law will not be compromised, when removing a person from a position such as the Chief Justice without straying away from the proper procedures as in the Constitution of Sri Lanka.
