UPDATE : Shots fired at Provincial Councillor Wasantha Wendaruwa’s residence

The police have launched investigations into the shooting that was carried out on the residence of North Western Provincial Councilor Lakshman Wendaruwa. The police said the gunmen have fled the scene in a jeep.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said the investigations are being carried out under the supervision of an assistant superintendent of police.

According to the police, the shots had been fired at around 11.50 on Friday night. The police added that the provincial councilor was not at home during the shooting

A security guard who was injured in the shooting was admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital from treatment. Lakshman Wendaruwa pledged his support to presidential candidate of the New Democratic Front Maithripala Sirisena yesterday. The police media spokesperson’s office said that investigations are underway to ascertain if the shooting was politically motivated.
