The landslide warning issued to ten districts by the National Building Research Organisation due to the inclement weather conditions remains in effect. The Disaster Management Centre said that the threat of landslides persists in the Matale, Kandy, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Kalutara, Galle, Matara and Hambantota Districts.

Meanwhile, two accident have been reported from the Kandy District due to the inclement weather. Four vehicles travelling along the Kandy – Peradeniya road were damaged after a tree collapsed onto the road.

According to our correspondent, three people had sustained injuries in the incident while one individual is in serious condition and is currently receiving treatment at the Kandy General Hospital. While the Kandy Police, the Kandy Fire Extinguishing Unit and the Infantry Forces were taking measures to remove the tree from the road, our correspondent stated that vehicular movement along the road has been restored.

A house was destroyed due to a landslide that occurred in the Simon Estate area in Kandy. Our correspondent said that  no one was injured in the incident. Meanwhile,  ten families are currently housed at the Bahirawakanda Maddumabandara College.

The Department of Agrarian Services Development says that 200 small tanks and irrigation tanks have broken away. The Department’s Head of the Water Management Unit, Prabath Vitharana said that immediate action is being taken to repair them. He added that 14,000 small tanks are functioning under the purview of the Department.

Meanwhile the Irrigation Department says that they are receiving reports of damaged reservoirs that come under the purview of the department. For more information in this regard, we contacted Director of the Water Management Unit of the Irrigation Department Janaki Meegastenna.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology says that showers will occur at several places in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle district.
