The Department of Registration of Persons says that steps will be taken in the coming weeks to issue national identity cards for those who do not possess same, ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.
Commissioner General of Department of Registration of Persons, R.M.S. Sarath Kumara stated that they have received a total of 75 000 application forms by December 15. And are in the process of issuing ID cards for these applicants in the coming five to six days.
Adding to that, he noted that they are trying their best to issue ID cards for those applications that are received after December 15. Temporary ID cards will be issued before January 8 if they are not able to issue these applicants with permanent ID cards.
