Investigations have commenced into the incident where the stage in the area where a public rally of Presidential Candidate Maithripala Sirisena was to be held was set alight by an unidentified group in Waduraba, Galle.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana noted that investigations commenced after visuals of the incident were obtained from a CCTV camera from a house located in close proximity to where the incident occurred.
The Police Media Spokesperson added that three statements have been recorded thus far and investigations are being carried out under the supervision of the ASP of Galle.
A public rally was to take place in the town of Wanduraba on Wednesday night.
A lorry that carried loudspeakers intended for use in the rally had also been torched. According to our correspondent, the equipment had been destroyed in the fire.
