Speaking at the Cabinet Media Briefing, Cabinet Media Spokeserson Keheliya Rambukwella said that a proclamation for a presidential election will be made at 1.30 p.m. on Thursday.
Speaking to News1st earlier in the day, on Thursday, Minister Rambukwella said that discussions pertaining to the presidential elections took place during the Party’s Central Working Committee meeting on Wednesday night.
He further noted that if a proclamation is to be delivered on the presidential election it would be delivered by the president.
He stated “During the Party Central Working Committee, discussions were held on topics surrounding the current political situation in the country. Here, we discussed the premise for a presidential election and if there is any argument on it, the media will make sure to carry the story. The president completed four years as of 12 midnight yesterday, so if a presidential election is to be announced, it would be announced by the head of state, in this case the president, at any given time during the course of the day today.”
