The mission of the aid convoy of the Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra, which was deployed to the Ganesha Tamil College in Koslanda, was hindered by certain officials of the Disaster Management Centre.
The team, which spent twelve hours on the road to reach Koslanda, were made to waste another three hours, because of the disruption caused of these officials.
The distribution of aid resumed as usual after the official from the Disaster Management Centre who disrupted us, left the location.
Our experience is that such instances are caused by the actions of certain officials at the location, and that this is by no means the standard procedure of the Disaster Management Centre.
Notwithstanding the many obstacles, the distribution of aid from the Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra convoy progressed with the cooperation of all those present.
The recipients of this aid noted that they would never forget the MTV MBC Media network, which came forward first, to lend a helping hand, following this unexpected tragedy.
Another convoy of the Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra, distributed aid to the affected populace at the Punagala Tamil College. The convoy which made its way to Nuwara Eliya, distributed aid at several camps for the displaced located around the town of Nuwara Eliya.
Many children who go to school in the morning and work in the estates in the evenings, have been made to abandon their normal lives and their homes.
These children have been forced to leave behind even their books and have been left with nothing but painful memories.
The light that shone on the faces of these children as soon as they received books from the Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra, made it evident that they would be able to return to their normal lives soon.
Another team from the Sahana Yathra distributed aid at the displaced camp located at the Elamulla Pre School in Hanguranketha. Aid was also distributed on Sunday to people displaced by the threat of landslides in Malwaththa, Bandarawela.
Aid was distributed at the Wewathenna Sri Sumangalarama Viharaya in Bandarawela. Aid was also distributed to people who have been displaced due to landslides in Ella and Haldummulla.
Aid was distributed to 94 people from 24 families in the Pujapitiya Administrative Division in Kandy.
Aid was distributed Saturday afternoon at the Pelmadulla Divisional Secretariat and in Kahawaththa, Endana and Hapugasthenna in Ratnapura.
