Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa, at Temple Trees on Monday morning to brief him on the ongoing work and progress of objectives agreed upon at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Colombo last November.
A statement issued by the International Media Unit at the Presidential Secretariat notes that the Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma, had called the meeting a routine ‘health-check’ of work resulting from CHOGM 2013, and had reported to the President that the check was successful.
Regarding initiatives taking place in Sri Lanka, Sharma informed the President that the collaborations between the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka had been very productive.
He stated that the Secretariat stands ready to continue assisting in the implementation of the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission, as required.
