Foreign nationals need to obtain prior permission before visiting the North – Defence Ministry

The Ministry of Defence and Urban Development officially announced on Wednesday October 15 that foreign nationals need to obtain prior approval from the Ministry before visiting the Northern Province.

Director of the Media Centre of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Brigadier  Ruwan Wanigasooriya, addressing a media briefing in Colombo, noted that the government cannot let anyone create strife among communities, adding that they have received information pertaining to foreign groups that operate specially in the Northern Province that are attempting to do so .

The Brigadier noted that this could become a threat to national security and it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that such threats do not arise. Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya requested foreigners to inform the Ministry of Defence and obtain prior approval from the ministry before travelling to the North of the country.

Foreign nationals travelling to the Northern Province will be required to state the objective of their visit as well as where they will be travelling to.
