The Professional Web Journalists’ Association or PWJA claims that a workshop organised for web journalists had been prevented from going ahead with the intervention of the police.
The PWJA notes that the workshop was to be held over the weekend, at a hotel in Negombo.
The Professional Web Journalists’ Association claims that the workshop was organised to raise awareness among professional online journalists on internet security.
Meanwhile, Reuters quoting the Action Committee for Media Freedom, reported on Tuesday that the police had allegedly threatened the owner of the hotel. Although attempts were made to contact the hotel management, they refused to comment on the matter.
However, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana has rejected these allegations. Reuters quoted SSP Rohana as saying that the police had no involvement in the matter.
