An exchange of words took place between Chief Government Whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and the Chair in Parliament on Tuesday prior to the decision to adjourn the house owing to the lack of quorum.

Dinesh Gunawardena: There was an agreement that we would pass this unopposed – so unopposed means the smooth flow till the regulation is adopted. So, I don’t want to say anything for the back-bencher honourable Perera who raised this, but he is unaware of this decision that was taken. That is what I would like to submit to you.

Chair:  Honourable Minister, we can discuss this at the party leader’s meeting but if any members are asked to quorum you have to do that.

Dinesh Gunawardena: Before you make a decision to adjourn and have a party leader’s meeting, before you make any decision on the matter raised by the honourable member, that is my request.

Chair:  If there is no quorum I can’t continue the Parliament. House adjourned until tomorrow 1 p.m.
